Cu|mol [nlat. Cuminum cyminum = Römischer Kümmel (Bot.); ↑ -ol (3)], das; -s; Syn.: Cumen, 2-Phenylpropan, Isopropylbenzol: farblose, brennbare Fl., Sdp. 153 °C, die haupts. zur Herst. von Phenol u. Aceton durch ↑ Hock-Spaltung des Luftoxidationsproduktes von C. (Cumolhydroperoxid) verwendet wird.

Cumol
 
[griechisch; lateinisch] das, -s, aus Benzol und Propylen hergestellte organische Verbindung (systematische Bezeichnung Isopropylbenzol); farblose, in Wasser unlösliche Flüssigkeit. Durch Oxidation mit Luft zu Cumolhydroperoxid und dessen Spaltung mit Säure werden Phenol und Aceton gewonnen (Cumolphenol-Verfahren):
